Employee Spotlight: Dionne Austin

Dionne Austin, PreCheck’s Director or Credentialing Programs and Product Manager for LicenseManager Pro, has been a key member of the PreCheck family since 2005. This coming October marks her 10 years with PreCheck, and we couldn’t be more excited about this milestone. Dionne’s recent Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) certification has equipped her with the capabilities to work alongside industry experts to provide the latest best practices in healthcare license management and credentialing. Her wealth of knowledge and the expertise she has accrued in the last decade has enabled her and her team to develop a license monitoring tool that’s unlike anything of its kind. Her commitment to her clients and passion for patient care have definitely played a pivotal role in her accomplishments.
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dionne to get to know her a little better. Here’s what she had to say:
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Healthcare is a growing and ever-changing industry. I’m driven by the challenges I’m faced with every day. The changes, emerging standards and advancements in technology really keep me engaged and passionate about what I do.
What fuels your passion to serve the healthcare industry?
I have two sons, but I also had a daughter who was born with heart disease. She spent a lot of time at the hospital during her treatments, and I will never forget the amount of care and dedication the staff provided for my family and me. Now that I’m working with other healthcare professionals, I know there’s a lot more to hiring good people than what’s on a resumé. Spending that much time in the hospital definitely gave me a different perspective on patient safety and care. It has also encouraged me to make sure only the highest qualified individuals gain access into our healthcare system.
How has your CPCS certification helped you better serve your clients?
Receiving my CPCS certification has definitely helped me provide a higher level of service to my clients. We had requests from clients to expand our role within PractitionerCheck to include additional components from our background checks that someone in credentialing or a medical staff office would normally complete. It allowed me to gain a broader understanding of why our clients needed us to carry out these functions. I was able to take that knowledge, collaborate with them, and create a more advanced, inclusive system.
With nearly 10 years at PreCheck, what is the most important thing you’ve learned?
Our clients appreciate the personable relationships and open communication we’ve established with them through the years. The fact that we don’t just listen to them, but we go above and beyond to ensure they’re equipped with the right tools to effectively carry out their tasks and reach their goals.
When you’re not helping your clients, what do you do for fun?
I definitely enjoy spending time with my sons. I’m also a football fanatic—I enjoy watching it; I enjoy attending them; and I enjoy participating in Fantasy Football. However, when the weather is nice, I like to play golf with a few of my friends and colleagues. It has only been a couple of years, but I think I’m getting better at it. Besides sports, I often find myself shopping either for my home or myself.
What is your main goal this year?
I have a few goals this year. I want to become more physically fit because I’m not getting any younger. Next, I would like to get better at my golf game. Additionally, I will continue researching for more ways on how to improve and streamline medical staff credentialing because it’s an ongoing process.
What’s the #1 tip you’d give to your clients?
I highly urge our clients to use all the functions and features provided with LicenseManager Pro. It has been developed by their peers and has proven to help medical staff professionals streamline their processes and become more efficient in managing their physicians’ licenses and certifications.
Sound off!
